Jim Sebastian studied at the Rhode Island School of Design including an internship in 1966 with Karl Gerstner in Basel where he pursued his interest in colour, form and motion. Jim continued his kinetic explorations and invented Timeframe, a perforated surface through which changing information is viewed. In 1976 Timeframe was inducted into the MoMA Design Collection and Jim founded Designframe, a full-service design consultancy. Jim’s work with Strathmore Paper included the redesign of their complete product offering and promotional material, including the renowned series of books about colour titled Aspects of Color. Simultaneously Jim developed the ‘Colorcurve’ specification system followed by the Digital Process Tint Guide, a multi-part tool that offers precision colour formulation. Jim also worked with Martex creating and producing thirty books. The series was coveted by designers for its innovative use of materials and new methods of storytelling.
