Dutch graphic designer -SYB- (Sybren Kuiper) studied Dutch language and literature at the University of Utrecht. After graduating, he studied graphic design at the art academy. Since 1994 he works as an independent graphic designer. -SYB- works almost exclusively for a wide range of cultural clients. The first half of his career predominantly posters, flyers and programs for theaters. The last fifteen years mainly on an ever growing oeuvre of books and catalogs commissioned by museums, publishers and photographers, with a strong focus on the narrative qualities of a project, always looking for ways to transform a (photo) book into an experience. To elevate the narrative of a project and make it more than a mere collection of pictures. Apart from a strong approach to editing and a keen eye for the use of text, he utilizes all the physical possibilities and characteristics of the book itself, sometimes deceptively simple, sometimes neglecting and stretching the percieved boundaries and limitations of bookmaking itself. -SYB- is part time teacher and art director. Occasionally he writes on behalf of his clients. His work has been widely recognized, nationally and internationally.
