Michalis Katzourakis, Greece (1968)
Born 1933 in Alexandria, Egypt, Michalis arrives 1938 with his family in Athens. He will study painting with André Lothe and graphic design under Paul Colin in Paris from 1951 to 1955.
In 1960, Michalis becomes the Greek Tourist Board’s art consultant and remains in this position until 1967. It is during this time, in 1962, that he co-founds the Athens Advertising Centre K&K with Freddie Carabott. In 1965, he is awarded the Golden Cross of the Order of the Phoenix for exceptional contribution to Greek design.
He becomes a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI) in 1968.
In 1974, he establishes the studio AMK, specialising in the study and design of interior spaces. He exhibits at the Galerie Denise René, Paris and participates in exhibitions all over the world with Denise René. His works are found in the Athens National Gallery, the Greek National Museum of Contemporary Art, the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, the Musée Matisse, and other collections. He received seven Rizzoli Awards for Best Greek Advertising, an honorary distinction from the Art Directors Club New York, and the third prize at the Brno Biennale.
