After graduating from Kuwasawa Design School in 1960, I began working at Oka Studio in 1961. I established Design Farm Inc. in 1975, and later taught illustration at Kuwasawa Design School (1995–2005). In 1995 I organized an antinuclear poster campaign by fax in Paris and Tokyo to protest against French nuclear testing. Over the years I have held numerous solo exhibitions including ‘My Theory of Evolution’ (Okabe Gallery, Tokyo, 1972), and ‘Visual Structure of humor’ (International Design Centre, Nagoya, 2003). Among the major awards I have won to date are: Gold Prize, International Biennale of Graphic Design, Brno, 1978; Gold Prize, Poster Biennale, Lahti, 1979; Bulgarian Artists Federation Award for Sculpture, Humour and Satire Biennale, Gabrovo, 1989; Gold Prize, Warsaw International Poster Biennale, 1996; Golden Bee, International Biennale of Graphic Design, Moscow, 1998; Bronze Prize; International Poster Triennial, Toyama, 1997, 2000.
