Tiit studied architecture at the University of Michigan and received his degree in graphic design from Western Michigan University, 1966. He has worked in LA, Minneapolis and Detroit. In 1971 he emigrated to Canada and joined Gottschalk+Ash Ltd, becoming a partner in 1978. In 1985 he left G+A to start Telmet Design Associates. The firm’s work is concentrated in the area of corporate communications, signage and wayfinding systems for institutional clients and stamp design for Canada Post. Tiit has been actively involved in the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada and the Association of Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario for over 30 years and has held various executive positions in Ontario and on the National Council. In 1988 he was awarded the Honour of Fellowship in the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada. In 1996 he received the Icograda Excellence Award and in 2002 he was inducted into Western Michigan University Art Alumni Academy, at their Centennial.
