Stig Lindberg was one of the most important postwar Swedish designers. He studied at the National College of Art, Craft and Design (Konstfack). Soon after his graduation, in 1937, he was hired by Gustavsberg potteries, where he became art director and chief designer. He was responsible for all their china design and utilitarian ceramics, and developed painted decorations for enamelware. He also designed wrapping paper, packaging, witty posters, exhibitions, textiles and children’s books. He stayed at Gustavsberg until 1978 and started his own studio in Italy in 1980. His work can still be found in museums and galleries in various countries.
