After high school he developed a deep and selftaught interest in the visual arts, from graphics to photography and architecture. Starting in Bari, he moved 1967 to Milan. In the 1950s and 60s he designed pavilions for RAI, Italsider and INA at the Fiera del Levante in Bari. In 1964 Castellano produced an important report on Lucania for ENI. He created graphics for Laterza and Vallecchi, and for the latter he received the Gold Medal from the Italian Presidency and the Bodoni Parma Award. He also created ceiling decorations for the Teatro Regio in Turin. Castellano taught in Urbino at ISIA, in Bari at the Academy of Fine Arts, and in Milan at the European Institute of Design. He is the author of many books about graphics and photography. Recently he has been concerned with research into digital imaging, connected with photography and photomechanics.
