Marte studied drawing and painting at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam, 1956–62. One of her teachers was Professor G.V.A. Röling, her father. She works on a very wide range of projects, including huge sculptures and monumental works of art, commissioned for government buildings, or by private companies and art collectors, in all kinds of techniques. Her portraits of Queen Beatrix, Prince Claus, the Duke of Gloucester and his family, the Mayor of Amsterdam and several captains of industry, have won acclaim. Her unique style enables her to reach maximum recognition through the minimum of lines. She has designed album covers for Philips, stamps for the Dutch PTT, theatre sets and costumes, fashion, posters, videos, films, lithographs, a 50-guilder coin, paintings, and glass designs. She has worked in collaboration with Wanda Werner, Adrienne and Alissa Morriën, and her beloved, deeply missed Henk Jurriaans, who passed away in 2005.
