Hiroshi Ohchi, Japan (1955)
Ohchi was trained at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts. His career started before WW2. In 1953 he became the first art director of Idea magazine, a position he held until his death. He was an educator and a designer of posters, packaging and exhibitions, working freelance in Tokyo. Hiroshi Ohchi wrote no less than 33 books and many articles on design. Ohchi was professor of Tokyo University of Education, Jissen Women’s College and Kanazawa College of Arts and Technology. His contribution to design education was remarkable and he helped to bring many up-and-coming talents into the design community. He was the first president of the Japanese chapter of AGI.
