Career: 1977: apprentice compositor. 1982–87: studies graphic design at the universities of Essen, Wuppertal, Basel and London. 1986: first professional experience in Amsterdam at BRS and Total Design. 1987: returns to England and continues professional career with Banks & Miles London. 1993: starts own company, HDR Visual Communication. 1995: co-founds company Bradbourne Publishing Ltd. Works as editor, art director and publisher, and produces the quarterly international typographic magazine Baseline as well as small limited-edition publications. Fellow of the International Society of Typographic Designers London (1992), Fellow of Royal Society of the Arts (1992), Honorary Member of Biennale Brno (1996). Honorary Degree from UCCA: University College for Creative Arts (2006). 1999: participated in design competition Kieler Woche 2001. Design awards in New York, England, Germany and Japan. Juror at ISTD: International Society of Typographic Designers, London, D&AD, London, and ADC NY.
