Garry Emery is a self-taught graphic designer. His achievements have been acknowledged by an honorary doctorate from RMIT University and an honorary bachelor of arts from the Sydney Graphics College. He is an adjunct professor at RMIT University and Deakin University. He is the design director of Emerystudio, a Melbourne-based practice operating across Australia, Asia, the Middle East and the United Kingdom, developing brand identity, corporate communications, motion graphics, exhibitions and environmental graphic design from the scale of buildings to cities. For his contribution to architecture and urbanism he received the Presidents Award from the Royal Australian Institute of Architects, and was recently awarded the 2006 Fellowship from the Society for Environmental Graphic Design USA. He lectures internationally and his work has been widely exhibited, published and awarded.
