Massimo Vignelli said ‘Fred Troller’s designs successfully combined Swiss rigour with American vitality.’ In 1954 he worked for motion picture producer Louis de Rochemont. He headed his own design studio in Zürich and became design director for Geigy Corporation USA in 1960. From 1966 on he worked in his Rye, NY studio, designing for major corporations like General Electric, Exxon, IBM, Westinghouse and Doubleday. In addition he taught at the School of Visual Arts and Cooper Union in NYC, the State University of New York, Purdue University, Philadelphia College of Art, Ohio State, South eastern University, RISD, and lastly he was chairman of design at Alfred University, NY. He was a critic in the Studio Seminar for Federal Designers/Writers at Yale and the 8th Studio Seminar for Federal Designers in Washington DC. Troller received awards from AIGA, ADC, TDC and others. His work was exhibited at the Composing Room, NY Art Directors Show, AIGA, Whitney Museum’s Color Show, and elsewhere.
