He was the son of a famous cartoonist and studied at the Académie Julian and the École Paul Colin. In 1936, he set up a Paris atelier with four former Colin students. He started to devote a lot of his time and talents to humanitarian causes: the fight against cancer, work for the Red Cross, children’s charities, and returning prisoners of war. This he did for Orangina (also designing their labels), Perrier and Bally Shoes. Monsavon soap, for whom he also worked, chose for a different course, by inviting Carlu, Savignac and Villemot to work on different projects. Air France was a similar case: under the art direction of Carlu, twelve AGI designers worked over several years for the airline. In 1949 Villemot shared an exhibition with Raymond Savignac. Between 1952–59 he created film posters for Gaumont, Pathé and UGC. He lectured in Chicago (ADC) in 1954. He had a solo exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, 1963. He warned: ‘The country is being occupied by the armies of marketing!’
