    Fritz Gottschalk, Switzerland (1975)

    A leading exponent of Swiss graphic design and the International Style, Fritz Gottschalk lives and works in Zürich, where he was born in 1937. Apprenticed, and studied design in Paris and London. After post-graduate work in Basel, Fritz emigrated to Canada in the late 60s. He created a signage system for the World Exposition in Montréal, and led graphic design at Paul Arthur & Associates. In 1966 he co-founded Gottschalk+Ash Ltd with Stuart Ash. He designed postage stamps, the official lottery ticket, coordinated all sponsor programs and headed design for the 1976 Olympic Games. In 1978 he opened G+A Zürich. In the 80s Gottschalk was tasked to design the Swiss passport, global emblem of the Swiss nation. He also directed G+A’s Milan office and served on the Board of Graphis Publishing. G+A’s work exhibited in Frankfurt, Montréal, Toronto, Chicago, Athens, Zürich and Beijing. Received over 100 awards, including recognition in 2011 for Lifetime Achievement by Graphic Design Canada.
