The Postmodern Child

Kim Eojin

This exhibition contests the notion that children are objects of enlightenment. Masks of various shapes symbolize the rebellious child, while the unreserved typography connotes freedom.

    Kim Eojin, South Korea (2023)

I am a graphic designer and co-owner of the Seoul-based design studio Everyday Practice. While I love the traditional design process, my own working process can often be iconoclastic. This is not to rebel against the status quo, but rather to satisfy my ongoing curiosity about the solidity of tradition. When I break down different aspects of tradition, I create new formalities by setting modest rules in the gaps I find. As such, my work doesn’t make a lot of noise, but it is scattered with small, thought-provoking fragments of order here and there. This reflects my habit of casting new perspectives on all aspects of life, and my belief in the power of design to contribute to human life in some way.
