    Saul Bass, USA (1958)

    Saul studied 1936–39 at the Art Students League and 1944–45 at the Brooklyn College, New York. Saul was the principal of Saul Bass & Associates, Los Angeles (1946–80), later renamed Bass Yager & Associates. Bass worked as a graphic designer, animator, photographer and film director. He designed trademarks/logos and corporate identity programmes for AT&T, Bell Systems, United Airlines, Minolta, Alcoa, Warner Communication, Exxon and many more major companies. Bass changed the world’s approach to movie titles and trailers with his innovative titles for more than 40 movies including Exodus, The Man with the Golden Arm, Vertigo and Psycho. Saul Bass scored an Oscar and a Moscow Film Festival gold award for his documentary Why Man Creates. Designed posters and graphics for the LA Olympics 1984. Elected in 1978 to the NY Art Directors’ Hall of Fame. Got a Lifetime Achievement Award (1988) from the ADC of Los Angeles. Saul was an amiable personality, and always present at AGI congresses.
