    Martin Gavler, Sweden (1952)

    Martin Gavler received his art training at the National College of Art, Craft and Design in Stockholm (Konstfack), where he also became a teacher from 1949–56. During the 1940s he worked as a commercial artist at Svenska Telegrambyrån. In 1940 he established a small studio working as a freelance designer with his assistants, specializing in a steady fl ow of outstanding advertising and illustrations, including work for the Swedish Post. He also produced more than 250 fi lm posters. Martin Gavler was the head of the department of graphic design at Konstfack 1956–69. From 1963–66 he was on the board of Icograda as treasurer. From 1945–53 he was board member and president of SAAFT, the Swedish poster artists association. Together with John Melin he was one of the founders of the Golden Egg design awards.
