Oded Ezer: The Typographer’s Guide to the Galaxy presents the typographic experiments and experimental typography of visionary artist and designer Oded Ezer for the first time. A pioneer in the field, Ezer is one of the most influential designers today, who is reinventing the art of typography.

Jonathan Safran Foer has orchestrated a new way of experiencing and understanding one of our oldest, most timeless, and sacred stories, with a new translation of the traditional text by Nathan Englander and provocative commentary by major Jewish writers and thinkers. Ravishingly designed and illustrated by the acclaimed Israeli artist and typographer Oded Ezer, it is an utterly unique and absorbing prayer book, that brings together some of the preeminent voices of our time.

The Skirball Haggadah seeks to connect the generations of Jews who have celebrated the story of the Exodus in centuries past and to make that story deeply relevant to the present. It follows the sequence of rituals and blessings derived from age-old Jewish practice. Yet its primary focus is on the social relevance of Passover: the human quest to overcome adversity, to build a just and compassionate community, and to bequeath it to future generations.

In the 21st century, many designers have become aware of their role and responsibility in these disruptive activities, and have adjusted their practices accordingly. The objects showcase the technological advancements of the past decades, while proposing alternatives for a future in which resources might not be as readily available. Today, the visualization of our personal stories is an integral and essential part of nearly every moment of life, and we use text in all of its forms to define reality, emotions and even time itself. Conceived and curated by Debbie Millman, this exhibition was an attempt to organize, express, translate and reflect both how we live in language and how language now defines our lives.

This installation focuses on works designed during the last few decades that have been acquired by the Museum not only because they met aesthetic and functional standards that are worthy of our collection, but also because they introduce new categories of investigation and new design forms. This major international exhibition explores how graphic design has broadened its reach dramatically over the past decade, expanding from a specialized profession to a widely deployed tool. Graphic Design: Now in Production explores design-driven magazines, newspapers, books, and posters as well as branding programs for corporations, subcultures, and nations. Curated by Ian Albinson, Andrew Blauvelt, Jeremy Leslie, Ellen Lupton, Armin Vit and Bryony Gomez-Palacio.

The exhibition highlighted examples of successful translation of disruptive innovation, examples based on ongoing research, as well as reflections on the future responsibilities of design. Of particular interest will be the exploration of the relationship between design and science and the approach to scale. The exhibition was accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue.
