Kurt graduated 1940 from high school in Lübeck. 1941–45: military service in Russia. 1945–50: prisoner of war in Russia. 1950–52: apprentice typesetter. 1953–55: studied book graphics and typography at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart. 1955: started a freelance practice as a graphic designer, advertising consultant and copywriter. 1956–63: was sub-editor and type manager of Der Druckspiegel. Weidemann worked for several leading firms like COOP, Zeiss, Merk, Mercedes-Benz, Deutsche Bahn and Bundespost. Has worked on corporate identity programmes since 1961. Weidemann was a professor at the Academy in Stuttgart, 1965–85. Started teaching at the Koblenz School of Corporate Management in 1983. The next year he started teaching at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Karlsruhe. His font designs include Biblica (1979), ITC Weidemann (1983) and Corporate A.S.E. (1985–89). His most important publications are Wo der Buchstabe das Wort führt and Wortarmut.
