    Pierre Mendell, Germany (1980)

    Pierre Mendell studied graphic design with Armin Hofmann at the College for Design in Basel, and founded the Studio Mendell & Oberer in Munich with Klaus Oberer in 1961. He founded the Pierre Mendell Design Studio in January 2000. Mendell has been awarded the Gold Medal from the Art Directors Club Germany, the Gold Medal from the Art Directors Club New York, Best German Poster, Grand Prix Internationale de l’Affiche, Paris, City of Munich Design Prize, Corporate Design Prize, Forum of Industrial Design, Hanover, German Poster Grand Prix, first prize at the International Triennial of Stage Posters, Sofia, and first prize at the International Biennial of Theatre Posters, Rzeszów. The exhibition ‘L’art pour l’art, Pierre Mendell, Design for Cultural Institutions’ was sponsored by the Goethe Institute and has been shown around the world. Pierre Mendell taught from 1987 to 1996 at the Yale University Summer Design Programme in Brissago, Switzerland.
