    Self-taught as an artist, Steiner showed great versatility and ingenuity. For him design was a way of life. Albe was idealistic and politically motivated. Started off as a textile designer, but made his name as an art director, exhibition and industrial designer, technical editor and display manager. Taught the history and technique of graphic art at the Scuola Rinascità from 1949, was art director of Feltrinelli publishers, Milan. Won a Triennale Grand Prix and silver medal in 1951, a Triennale gold medal in 1954 and another at the Milan Fair of 1956. He loved to experiment in two and three dimensions. Wrote in trade magazines. With his students, he designed an identity for the historic town of Urbino. Designed, wrote, illustrated a plan for an illustrated publication, which he presented at an AGI assembly in Warsaw 1974. In Carpi he designed the interior and the displays for a commemorative museum for and about Nazi victims, deportation, camps and extermination.
